Education is the key to unlocking a better future for ourselves, and others. As a teacher for over thirty years, I hope that I have inspired, motivated and influenced my students’ lives. By instilling a passion for learning in the children and young adults I have taught, I feel that I have contributed to building their knowledge and skills and indirectly, to advancing society as a whole.
Across 1989-2003, I worked in a Victorian primary school, teaching in a general classroom but also as a science specialist. I worked with many teachers through assisting with professional learning in the Geelong area 1997-2000. Moving to Deakin University, I have taught in undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate courses in both face-to-face and online modes. Particularly in science education, my role has been to influence students’ opinions about science learning, to motivate them and to encourage future teaching of science.
